Original Suffragette Postcard, British, .
The Suffragette's Family and its Problems: Bah-ah-ah! Mammy's Rinking.Ise a Suffragette
(Posted in Leeds, 1910). An original postcard for collectors of original suffragette / Votes for Women / women's movement memorabilia. Satirical cartoon postcard, from an anti-women's suffrage perspective, which highlights the neglected family. The enemies of the "Votes for Women" campaign liked to claim that the suffragettes were frivolous women who neglected their families and domestic duties, in their quest for freedom and rights. Whilst Mummy is out at the skating rink, Daddy is drinking, sister is being entertained by a young man, brother is up to mischief - and the little girl herself is crying without being comforted! The cartoon illustrations are accompanied by a short comical printed verse. The card has been posted in 1910. Stamp is present. Short message in pencil to rear. Electronic image has been protected with a watermark "Protected", to prevent image theft. This is obviously not present on the card itself. Some light wear to edges and corners. A little light soiling and thumbing to rear, otherwise very good and bright with no creasing. pp. Order No. NSBK-C14926

This is the House that Man Built. Members Arm-in-Arm: Two smartly-dressed couples leave the Houses of Parliament arm-in-arm, one in the foreground, the other in the distance, near Big Ben
(Posted in August, 1918). Scarce. An original postcard for collectors of original suffragette / Votes for Women memorabilia. Two smartly-dressed couples leave the Houses of Parliament arm-in-arm - one in the foreground, the other in the distance, near Big Ben. The image looks ahead to the future - to a political system in which the goal of "Votes for Women" has been achieved, and women are sitting alongside men as Members of Parliament. There's a short printed verse from a pro-women's suffrage perspective. (The suffragette cause is supported). From the House That Man Built Series. B.B. London Series. No E23. Printed in Germany. The card has been posted, on 16th August 1918, in Belfast. Handwritten message in ink to rear. Electronic image has been protected with a watermark "Protected", to prevent image theft.
