Large rosette-shaped badge (with a diameter of 45mm), in the attractive suffragette colours of purple, white and green. Gold-plated finish all round. Purple background with green circle displaying the words "Loyal Service - Deeds Not Words" in gold. On an inner white circle, in the centre of the badge, the letters "W.S.P.U" and the date "1913" appear, also in gold. Gold back and safety pin to rear for easy affixing to garments. The Portcullis: The WSPU Holloway Badge / Brooch
(Modern Replica, 2018).
The original Holloway brooch, of which this is a faithful replica, was designed by Sylvia Panhurst and presented from 1909 onwards to suffragettes who had undergone imprisonment. The portcullis and chains are in a non-precious antique-chrome plate, and the arrow on top, which is the convict symbol, is purple, white and green enamel (the colours of the WSPU). Dimensions: 2cm X 2.5cm. With a secure butterfly clasp to the rear. Presented with a free purple velvet gift-pouch in an attractive gift-bag, which is clear at the front and shiny silver at the rear.
