The image is printed in vibrant lithographic colours and depicts a young lady in the countryside, by a gate, holding high a copy of 'The Suffragette' newspaper. Attractive, circular plated gold-coloured metal reproduction brooch / badge with firm safety-pin fitment at the rear for affixing to clothes. The original badge, on which this is faithfully based, was designed by Sylvia Pankhurst for the suffragette campaign in 1909 / 1910. It incorporates the purple, white and green colour-scheme of the Women's Social and Political Union, and depicts a woman stepping through an iron gate and heavy chains, carrying a 'Votes for Women' streamer. 25mm in diameter. A modern reproduction of this suffragette poster, originally published by the Brighton and Hove Women's Francise Society, 191x (exact date uncertain). Printed with archival inks on premium paper (300 GSM, Silk Art, photographic print). Poster (in varying shades of brown and black) shows a woman holding a banner ("Justice Demands the Vote"), next to a shrouded woman holding the scales of justice. They're held back by a rope tied to two posts. Below the steps, a shrouded mother cuddles her baby and another woman in period fashion looks on. An original photographic postcard for collectors of original suffragette / Votes for Women memorabilia. On March 3, 1913, the National American Woman Suffrage Association - NAWSA - organised a woman suffrage parade and demonstration in Washington DC. (Pennsylvania Avenue). It was timed to coordinate with Woodrow Wilson's presidential inauguration, the following day. The marchers were jeered and attacked, and had to fight their way through the mob, and the resulting publicity focused the country's attention on the issue of Woman Suffrage. This is an original, contemporary postcard, issued at the time, and shows suffragette women in costume. Liberty and her Attendants. Suffragettes' Tableau in Front of Treasury Bloc. Photo by Harris-Ewing. On the back of the card, there's a handwritten contemporary message in ink: "This photo was taken on the Treasury Steps. It was quite cold that day and blowing hard. They did not have much clothes on". The card has not been posted and there is no stamp or postmark. Postcard. Rear is a little browned, slightly soiled and darkened, naturally with age, minor wear to corners and edges.Otherwise overall good condition. pp. Order No. NSBK-C15905
