Dimensions: 57mm long and 12mm in breadth at widest point (where main jewel is). With safety pin and chain, and the famous suffragette slogan "Deeds Not Words" engraved on the rear of the main shaft. Jabot pins were first used to adorn, or fasten, a dangling ruffle known as a jabot worn by men (on shirts) and women (on dresses) during the 1600s. They became important as an article of jewellery from the Edwardian period onwards - the heyday of the British suffragette movement - and flourished through into the 1930s as a special piece of Art Deco decoration. With the appearance of a military-style campaign medal, hunger strike medals were presented to suffragettes by the leadership of the Women's Social and Political Union (WSPU), and honoured those who had gone on hunger strike to to protest against not being recognised as political prisoners. The obverse of the medal is inscribed with the words 'HUNGER STRIKE', whilst the back is blank (where the recipient's name would have been engraved). Materials: Grosgrain ribbon in the famous suffragette colours of purple, white and green (vertical strips). Nickel with an antique-effect silver finish for an authentic "aged-look".
