A modern reproduction of this suffragette poster, originally produced by the Artists' Suffrage League, c. 1914 (exact date unknown). Printed with archival inks on premium paper (300 GSM, Silk Art, photographic print). Size of the paper is 450mm x 320mm, and image is approx 435mm x 305mm. Poster (in yellow, green and orange colours) depicts woman in a rowing boat, struggling against the onslaught of a huge wave, whilst on the crest, a man sails along leisurely in a sail boat, without effort. (Sails are marked "Votes"). Houses of Parliament in the background. Poster. Brand new, fine. pp. Order No. NSBK-C6878

An extremely scarce title, for the collector. Very good, clean, tight copy. "Unknown Colour" by Andrew Nicholson, brings together all Winifred Nicholson's works for the first time and reproduces in colour the wide range of her paintings, conveying in words and images the essence of her art which is light, colour and radiance. Compiled by Andrew Nicholson. Winifred Nicholson (1893-1981), wife of Ben Nicholson, is particularly remembered for her exquisite flower studies - many of which were painted before a window. She often incorporated landscape elements from Cumberland, Cornwall and the South of France into her work. Also characteristic of her style was the abstract using an ellipse shape. Hardback. Top corner slightly bumped, otherwise very good+, clean bright copy. Blank interiors for your own message or for any occasion. The image is printed in vibrant colours and is taken from a suffragette poster, created by W.F. Winter, and originally produced by the Artists' Suffrage League (date unknown). Image (in shades of brown, cream and sand) shows weary and dejected British working woman at a sewing machine, with the slogan "Votes for Workers" beneath it. Stratton, Helen.
Walberswick Marshes:
(Date unknown).
An original delicate watercolour painting on card (unframed) believed to be by the artist Helen Stratton (24.5 cm x 27.5cm or 9.5 inches x 10.5 inches). Stratton is a highly-regarded illustrator of children's fairy tales. Signed with initials in bottom right-hand corner (active 1891-1925). Framer's plate (which is separate, but which has presumably been on the back of the picture when framed) gives provenance - Walberswick Marshes - Helen Stratton - and her London address: 113 Abingdon Road, Kensington. The picture, in greens and blues, is of a bridge over marshland. Walberswick in Suffolk was a haven for artists in the 1890s and 1900s and is associated with Philip Wilson Steer and his circle of English Impressionists. The card has suffered a little acidification from the original backing boards. Corners worn, one slightly split, some browning to edges, and light brown staining to top left edge, about 1.5cm wide.
