A full colour poster print from the original, hand-painted oils-on-canvas portrait (2003), which has been based upon a black and white photograph, circa 1909. (The photo in question is held by the British Museum). Image size is 18 X 20 inches, with titles extending the print size to 18 x 23 inches. Printed on 120 GSM archival matt art paper, using photo-sensitive inks, for superior imagery and longevity. Image can be supplied, in thumbnail, upon request. A modern reproduction of this suffragette poster, originally published by the Brighton and Hove Women's Francise Society, 191x (exact date uncertain). Printed with archival inks on premium paper (300 GSM, Silk Art, photographic print). Poster (in varying shades of brown and black) shows a woman holding a banner ("Justice Demands the Vote"), next to a shrouded woman holding the scales of justice. They're held back by a rope tied to two posts. Below the steps, a shrouded mother cuddles her baby and another woman in period fashion looks on. Stratton, Helen.
Walberswick Marshes:
(Date unknown).
An original delicate watercolour painting on card (unframed) believed to be by the artist Helen Stratton (24.5 cm x 27.5cm or 9.5 inches x 10.5 inches). Stratton is a highly-regarded illustrator of children's fairy tales. Signed with initials in bottom right-hand corner (active 1891-1925). Framer's plate (which is separate, but which has presumably been on the back of the picture when framed) gives provenance - Walberswick Marshes - Helen Stratton - and her London address: 113 Abingdon Road, Kensington. The picture, in greens and blues, is of a bridge over marshland. Walberswick in Suffolk was a haven for artists in the 1890s and 1900s and is associated with Philip Wilson Steer and his circle of English Impressionists. The card has suffered a little acidification from the original backing boards. Corners worn, one slightly split, some browning to edges, and light brown staining to top left edge, about 1.5cm wide.
